Original Tommy’s Hamburgers - it surprised me that this restaurant made it onto anyone’s top favorites list as it is a chain restaurant. In my experience chain restaurants are good, but they are usually not write home to mom fabulous, this one is. Tommy’s has 30 locations across California. Pink’s Hot Dogs - Pink’s is a landmark in Hollywood, first opening it’s doors in 1946. Pink’s has served many celebrities over the years, this can be seen by the signed celeb pictures adorning the walls. Philipp’s - this deli style dinner is like stepping back in time from the sign out front to the pictures on the walls. You get an amazing French Dip sandwich with your choice of meat and bread, and it comes pre dipped, definitely worth the stop. 1001 Alameda St, Los Angeles California.

The Pie Hole - whether you are in the mood for a sweet pie like the Earl Grey Pie or something savory like the Chicken and Waffle pie, this is a great stop. 714 Traction Ave, Los Angeles California.

Katsuya Hollywood - the restaurant floor is open so it is a great place to look for local celebrities. The place has a real romantic vibe. If you go make sure that you order the crispy rice, the baked crab handroll and the creamy rock shrimp and you will not be disappointed. 6300 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles California.

Places to Camp around Los Angeles

With so much to do around Los Angeles, and the miles and miles of beaches LA is the perfect spot for your RV rental vacation.

Leo Carillo State Park - located just off the Pacific Coast Highway, this campground has 130 campsites and is right across the street from the beach. Explore the tidepools, caves and reefs or swim in the ocean or hike the nearby trails. 35000 PCH, Malibu California.

Refugio State Beach - this beautiful beach is great for swimming, kayaking and surfing. Kayak lessons are available during the summer. 35 Refugio Beach Rd, Goleta California.

Los Padres National Park - close to LA but far enough that you feel like you are in the middle of the mountains. There is a great hiking trail nearby that takes you to Willett Hot Springs for a relaxing swim. Goleta California.

Idyllwild - a great location for rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking or exploring the nearby villages. 24400 Canyon Trail, Idyllwild California.

Buckhorn Campground - in the Angeles National Forest at about 6300 feet. There is lots of tent camping here and small RV’s are allowed, but you can’t make a reservation, it is a first come first serve basis. Angeles Crest Hwy, La Canada Flintridge.

Sycamore Canyon Campground - a great campground with beach access and close to hiking trails. There are washrooms, showers and a dump station right on site too. 9000 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu California.

Malibu Creek Campground - each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. This campsite is a couple mile hike from the location where the TV series M*A*S*H* was filmed. There you can still find some left over set paraphernalia and some informational signs. There is also a rock pool close by for a little swim and cliff diving. 1925 Las Virgenes Rd, Calabasas California.

Manker Flats Campground - this campground is close to many hiking trails for any skill level. From the 12 mile Bear Canyon Trail to the 1.4 mile San Antonio Falls trail. San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, Mt Baldy California.

Los Angeles KOA - only 30 minutes from downtown Los Angeles this is a great place to stay with your rental RV if you are planning on taking in all the attractions of LA. 2200 North White Ave, Pomona California.

Castaic Lake RV Park - 35 minutes from Hollywood. This RV park has a general store that has RV supplies and propane. 31540 Ridge Route Rd, Castaic California.

Anaheim RV Park - sit by your campfire and watch the fireworks from Disneyland. There is also a shuttle that will pick you up from the RV park and bring you to see Mickey. 20 W Midway Dr, Anaheim California.

Orangeland RV Park - within walking distance to theatres and restaurants. You can pick oranges right from the tree in your RV campsite. 1600 W Struck Ave, Orange California.

Dockweiler RV Park - this RV park is really just a big parking lot, but you are right on the beach. Literally steps from your RV is the sandy beach. This is a location that can’t be matched by any other RV park. 12001 Vista Del Mar, Playa Del Rey California.

Emma Wood State Beach - this is a great spot to go fishing, surfing and swimming. There are no amenities here, so come prepared and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Hwy 101, Ventura California.

Sunrise RV Park - nice large lots with grass and full hookups. 516 S Salinas St, Santa Barbara California.

Flying Flags RV Resort - great place for kids, with a pool, splash zone and playground. There are six vintage Airstreams that have been fully redone that are available to rent. 180 Avenue of Flags, Buellton California.

The Californian RV Park - this park is surrounded by ranches and the Angeles National Forest. There are hundreds of hiking trails within minutes of this RV park. 1535 W Sierra Hwy, Acton California.

Venice Beach - walk, skate or bike along the one and a half mile boardwalk that is Venice Beach. Stop and check out the bodybuilders as they work out on Muscle Beach, or take in the buskers, singing, dancing, juggling, walking on broken glass, the entertainment is endless. There are hundreds of street vendors selling everything from lunch, temporary tattoos and crystals to fortune telling and t-shirts. Ocean side, Venice Beach California.

The Hollywood Museum - the official museum of Hollywood. This museum has 100 years of hollywood history from the silent movies to Marilyn Monroe’s million dollar dress. There are four floors of authentic show biz treasures. 1600 Highland Ave, Hollywood California.

Rodeo Drive - though most of us can’t afford to do actual shopping on Rodeo Drive we can all do a little window shopping. Beverly Hills California.

Things to do with Kids in Los Angeles

There are so many things to do in Los Angeles with kids that do not involve Disneyland. Don’t get me wrong Disneyland is great and everyone should spend a couple of days there, but don’t make it your whole trip, check out these other local attractions. Petersen Automotive Museum - this is a great stop for any car lover. With exhibits such as the 1886 Benz, to the 1981 DeLorean to a 1903 Indian motorcycle this museum is a great way to spend the day. There is no need to pack a lunch as there is a restaurant onsite called Dragos, with contemporary Italian cuisine. 6060 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles California.

Kidspace Children’s Museum - this is a great place for kids to burn off some energy while learning about the world around them. Expect kids to get muddy, sandy and wet while they explore nature, science and technology.
