Burning Man is a celebration of self-expression in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Larry Harvey first set fire to a wooden body he had made of scrap wood on Baker Beach, San Francisco as a way of cleansing himself from a failed love affair. As the lights and flames licked up, the figure drew an instant crowd and the Burning Man began.

An annual festival since 1986, artists, freethinkers, activists and believers have congregated together once a year to celebrate in a festival of hope, friendship and creativity. With the burning of the “man”, people are able to get away from the oppressive opinions and morals of society and focus instead on the togetherness you can create with your neighbour just by being open to life and new experiences.
